The seventh commandment does not permit people of God to do it. It is a straightforward command that is easily broken by many people including followers of Christ, because of their innate characters. Here, Joseph type of example cannot be common with people. God is so much concern about our sexual purity and wants us to control our passion for it. God prohibits adultery because He values the sexual union between couples, for it mirrors Christ’s relationship with the church. In a marriage relationship, two people become one flesh through sexual union. The innate act of adultery destroys this relationship and brings harm to our bodies 1 cor 6:18. Sexual diseases are rampart throughout the world and hundreds of thousands continue to die of HIV/AIDS yearly. Other STDS also have life long effects and one doesn’t know when he/she is contracting a disease. This a temporary enjoyment that may likely bring dead. Adultery destroys the model of marriage set forth between Christ and the Church. Christ has made an important covenant with His Church, which is something He is incapable of breaking. Church is often called the bride of Christ. Christ therefore treats the church with utmost respect because it is His body. Adultery includes the way we view our spouses. There must be honour, dignity and respect for our spouses in order to avoid the pitfalls of temptation. The effect of adultery is broken homes and children are likely to become vagabonds in the society. It also damages husband and wife in the process and the bond of trust is broken in a hurry, resulting to divorce. God’s command to flee from adultery is for our well being and for marriage unity. We live in an immoral culture, marriage has become a thing of convenience and pleasure, there is an air of sexual exploration that invites unfaithfulness. Therefore, to counter adultery, we need to guard our hearts carefully, if actually we love God that established marriage. Our sexuality is a powerful force that can be used for good within the context of marriage or misused resulting in harm outside marriage. We must glorify God by allowing Him to control our sexuality.
