In Exodus 20:12, the fifth commandment exhort the followers of God to honor parents, and is the first commandment with promise. This is the first commandment of instructional behaviour towards each other. The way we treat our parents is very important, hence is a marker of how we treat all authority throughout our life. As a honour of respect for authority, God’s followers must honor their parents, by respecting, obeying and treating them with care Ephesians 6:1-3. Globally, many children grow up in broken homes with lack of training. Some in homes that are traditionally functional. However, respecting and honouring parents pleases God and remains a requirement. Treating our parents with dignity is germane and worthy of respect. The Bible celebrates children who honour their parents. Honouring our parents contributes to the standard God set for the world and society at large. By obeying our parents, we follow the first authority which figures in our lives, thereby modeling the honor and respect for other authorities. Societies without order crumbles very quickly. Is a sine qua non to honour our parents because is the foundational block of societal structure. Be that as it may, by honouring our parents, it brings benefits to our well being. We are known to our parents than anyone else and they are advanced in wisdom and experience of several years. We should listen to them and obey them and by so doing, we enjoy long life as God promises. However, sometimes loving our parents may be difficult especially when they wronged us. We can forgive them as Christ forgave us. Therefore, we must stick to Bible standard which compels us to forgive, even if they do not deserve honour. This brings huge testament to our dependence on God and our obedience to Him. In spite of their flaws, we should live them and respect them. No controversy. May God bless us as we obey ijmn.
