The fourth commandment exhort the people of Israel to keep the Sabbath day holy. This commandment admonishes us to keep a day separate in a week to rest and worship God as a mark of respect. No work should be done, it is for our benefit and obedience to God for His glory. Although, the Jewish tradition adheres to Sabbath on Saturday, Christians observe the Sabbath on Sunday, except seven day Adventist church that follows the tradition of the Jewish. However, natures make the difference for either Saturday or Sunday for Christians, particularly in Nigeria, when we are joined together. Of course, we celebrate the Sabbath on Sunday because that was when Christ rose up from dead. John 20:1. The ability to rest and reflect on Sabbath was almost vanished because we are constantly busy preparing for secular events. Therefore, people disregard the fourth commandment because of shift duties e.g hospitals and other busy areas. People adhere to it strictly in those days, but nowadays, it has become a culture of convenience, and most retail stores and professional sports operate all seven days of the week. Our rate of focus on productivity demands non stop action until we finish the job and in the professional world, by taking Sunday off and looked down upon by many. There are several reasons however, why an observed Sabbath is a good thing. First, all creatures except lower animals and inanimate things require rest. Our human bodies are designed to be productive and also require rest in order to recharge. It also gives us the impetus to worship God our creator by giving us the opportunity to reflect on the workings of God in our lives and to demonstrate too our trust and dependence on Him only and by so doing, becomes a blessing to those who keep it. Finally, the Sabbath points to the rest we have in Christ. This command should be followed in order to obey God and honour Him with our bodies and with our rest. The grace to adhere to it, may the Lord grant unto us ijmn.
