Why do we need the ten commandments? God’s purpose was not to limit the bounds of human expression. God acted as any good father would have acted by providing rules and regulations that enable us to live a fulfilled life of happiness on earth so as to protect us from dangers and harms that could befall us. God gave us the commandments in order to provide for our guidance, encouragement just like other laws to provide structure and order. The laws of God helps us to live maximally as members of society. Second, the commandments give us the impetus to honour God and obey Him, being part of His identity. The ten commandments were not given to assure us the absence of evil, but to ensure purity within the context of God. Certainly, God’s intention of ten commandments is to guide us to live so as to please Him. They are dos and don’ts of God. They are to be cherished and kept if we love God. They serve as gauge to help us discover our personal peace and blessing. Although the ten commandments have lost value in the face of authority in our Nation, the actual commandments have not abated in worth for authority. Nevertheless, they are still revelation of God to humanity on how to relate with Him and humans. Those who ignore it are living a sinful nature different from the purpose of God the creator. We are to honour God according to the ten commandments by obeying Him to the latter. One of the greatest witnesses of believers is that they obey God as their ultimate source of authority. These ten commandments were given to Moses at Mount Sinai in Exodus and Mount Horeb in Deuteronomy. People of God, let us adhere strictly to the commandments, even more than we obey the Laws of the Nation. God bless you all. Ire o.
