Having deeply studied the notable and physical problems in Nigeria, let me expressly express two major problems observed and unknown to the governed or the governanees. First, the parliamentary democracy of 1963 gave room for republican government, when the mid western Region was carved from the Western Region. We should not forget that Nigeria was granted independence by the British government in Oct 1 1960.This is known to everybody. However, Federalism was adopted in Oct 1 1954 with the implementation of Littleton constitution. It was a transition period to federal system with the following included, the 1946 Richard constitution which introduced Regionalism ( NEW) Northern, Eastern and Western Regions and maintain a centralized Administrative Structure. (MC) Macpherson constitution of 1951 granted limited legislative powers to the regions, though the supreme legislative authority remained with the central government at Lagos. With the present Federal structure, the following issues need attention, if we mean well for Nigerian Security and development. (a) Can the amalgamation of 1914 by Lord lugard still continue with the present system where penal code and criminal code are hidden from the constitution of 1999 so amended or Littleton constitution of 1954 or Macpherson constitution of 1951 or Richard constitution of 1946? Most Nigerians are put away from these two different laws. Penal code under Sharia permits the North to carry weapons and if need be, kill under the pretext of protecting their cows. Criminal code of the Southerners regard you as a criminal if found with any weapon. This simply means those that are with weapons can kill the defenceless Southerners. This is a wicked law and inhuman. This is where we are today. (b) The Federalism which gives room for double citizenship is another teething problem. Instead, the country should be divided into geo political zones. Everybody will now be governed according to their own law. We cannot eat our cakes and wish to have it back. For instance, some people obey laws, but victimized under Sharia laws and penal code palaver. We cannot bring mud water and mix with clean water. It will naturally produce dirty water. Nigerians have solvable problems, if we want it solved, but the “solipsistic” people pray for the oddity to continue. Minority interest should not be allowed to override the majority interest. We must call a spade a spade for greater development. The issue which the “solipsistic” people want is to pocket Nigeria to create less development and hullabaloo. In order to get to the lower part of trees cut and packed together, you must first remove those at the top and without doing this, is failure. Nigeria is large to be dismembered. This is a truism not debatable. Ire o.
